It took me a minute to see the "aftermath" part - everything looks so nice I thought it was the "before" shot. Wait, are those the chairs from that dining set I got from that girl Kristin in AZ? Wow.
Those are Kristin's chairs! We keep thinking we're going to get more comfortable and/or stable chairs, but then inertia takes over. Yes, that's right -- fifteen years of inertia.
The food was fantastic. The lasagna was spectacular with flavors woven into a tantalizing treat for the palate. The dressing was delectable, a solid comfort food highlighted with some crispy texture. I know Kelly says she thought it was overdone but I thought it was just right and the dish benefited from the extra time in the oven. The turkey was perfect, simply perfect. It is so hard to do turkey without getting a dried out mess. The sweet potatoes were ambrosial. The green beans were perfect - fresh and cooked so they were palate cleaning crispy. I found myself eating the beans with my fingers, enjoying the clean crunch as I lingered over my meal. Unfortunately, I had to miss the cranberry sauce - and I love cranberry sauce - The reports were this cranberry sauce was extra special, too.
The whole meal was as perfect as it can get...lingering around the table surrounded by people I love, the feeling of pride at how my children have turned out blended with the joy of watching my grandchildren grow up "well tended and well loved."
Gosh, I love my children and I love their choice of spouses. Everyone just seemed to be so happy to be in the present.
It was a wonderful day and the memories are so - life affirming.
