Ye olde turkey legs and pony rides

This weekend we went to the Renaissance festival with some friends. Normally it's not really my scene, but my friends are fans of a Scottish drum-and-bagpipe band that was playing there, Albannach. They were pretty amazing, and delicious, too, every one of them. (Mmm, tattooed drummers in kilts....) Liam was totally into the music, or maybe it was the belly-dancer in front of us. She did sparkle and jingle quite mesmerizingly.

Thea, however, wouldn't stay and watch the band (too loud for her), but she did like the turkey leg.

And she got to ride ponies (ZOMG PONIES!!!1!!).

This is as close as Liam wanted to get to the big, scary animals with dead eyes and sloping shoulders:

It was kind of funny, all the girls were horse-crazy, but the boys had to be coaxed onto the ponies and even then remained deeply suspicious. What is it with girls and horses?

Wait, are you saying pictures of my kids aren't enough to hold your attention?

I'm saying if you want to spice up your hits, teh boobies am always a winnar!

nylonthread's hits went through the roof after I crossposted those bbq money shots. I'm sure there are a buncha renfestfetishist and creative anachronism boards that'd be into bellydancing pics.

Actually, I'm just looking for an excuse to write a pointless tirade drawing parallels between the mainstreaming of bellydancing/stripper kultur and why everybody in porn is shaved DOWN THERE. I'm hoping to get a National Science Foundation grant so I can pad it out to 300 pages. Y'know, kinda like that whole global warming interpretive dance thing, except with strippers and porn.

Horses are to girls what superheroes are to boys. Maybe something to do with flying through the air with the greatest of ease? Oh wait, that's the girl on the flying trapeze.

Hell, I don't know. Looks like you all had a good time though. Cute kids you have there.

Adorable pics. And we haven't been to the Ren Fest here in forever. We really need to take Declan next summer.

P.S. Monkeyrotica is exceptionally funny at midnight.

One of my very favorite professors whom I love with all my heart still posited that Homer was female because there is all that death of thick thighed men, blood, guts and gore that is clinically documented but when the horses get killed, page after page of weeping, gnashed, mourning and grieving ensues - ergo, Homer was a woman.

That monkey is a tough act to follow, isn't he?

Homer had do have been a guy, since any woman in her right mind would have had Penelope hook up with any (or all) of her suiters for some hot, oily greco-roman MILF action.

Also, Odysseus is clearly a man's man because he'd prefer to wander around lost for 10 years rather than ask directions.
