Happy birthday, little man!

We started the day off at the natural history museum, always a hit with the kids.

In the hands-on room, Thea and I held shells up to our ears to hear the ocean and encouraged Liam to do the same. He kind of missed the point, though. Here he's saying "Hello? Hi! I see butterflies."

Close enough.
After naps (his and mine), we went to Watkins Park to feed the animals and pet the ponies. Unlike last time, the peacocks were quite happy to see us.

I was proud of Thea. Despite having been nipped by the geese last time, she fed them again, though warily. I think she was still holding a grudge, because afterward proclaimed them "nasty" (unlike the lovely and polite peacocks).

At home we had birthday cupcakes, Liam's favorite kind. He said the cake was his favorite part of his birthday, which surprised me because it was a pretty action-packed day and I make cupcakes at the drop of a hat. Perhaps he really just loved having his food set on fire.

My sweet little guy, we do adore him so. Happy birthday!

awww! sounds like liam and all had a great day!! happy birthday, little dude!
happy Birthday!!!! 2 is the BESTEST!
I do so love the little Noodge-cake with his wise blue eyes, his serious "got business to take care of" expression and the bubble-over, joyous laughter that positively lightens and brightens any day. I don't think I've ever known a child to so giddy with life in general. Liam spontaneously crows with exultant happiness like a tiny pirate who has discovered an incredible cache of gold doubloons and jewels and realizes every monetary wish has just been granted.
A well loved child radiates that love. It is such a powerful force, you can see it in photographs. You can see it in the child's expression, in their body language...would that every child born be blessed with loving parents, family and friends...and what more could anyone wish for any child - "May your days be replete with love."
I love Liam's expression in photographs - he learned to say "cheese" and holds his mouth the same way every time, an expression I've never seen him have unless his picture is being taken. He is no longer a "baby-baby" and is fast outgrowing of the toddler stage. He is thriving, blooming, evolving... what an incredible blessing!... savoring every moment, wringing out of each tick of the clock its fullness and promise.
He's got walking down to an art form and no longer does the toddler waddle with the drop to sitting position. Instead, his beautiful body has grace, energy and passion.
Liam is growing up.
How I rejoice in the lad's precious passage: the fullness of this day replete met with head up confidence
as time quicksilver slides into the future.
Two years old and already no longer a baby-baby.
Liam - the gift, a lagniappe - so very glad you were born. Happy Birthday, dear child.
It was a great day! Until the end when Thea ran out into the street and almost gave me a heart attack.
Two really is a sweet age. I'm really digging these times with the kids.
Your kids are adorable. Happy birthday to the little guy!
About the geese, I had a goose chase me and peck my hand when I was three, and I'm still not very fond of geese. So kudos to the little chick for only calling them nasty. ;-)
Happy birthday to Liam and momma! Sounds like his was an ideal day to celebrate a milestone.
Happy Birthday, kiddo.
Happy Birthday Liam!!
Perfect shirt for him to wear!
Sorry to repeat, but Happy Birthday little guy!
Happy birthday, Liam!! What an adorable little guy you are...and I hope you realize how your mom ROCKS!!
