Our finned friends

As I mentioned before, we have a new aquarium in the house. I love it, and not just because it was our excuse to reclaim the living room. To make way for the 55-gallon tank, we moved the toy shelf and almost all kid things from the living room to the kids' rooms upstairs. This was shortly after Thea put a bunch of stickers on the wall and announced proudly, "We're decorating the play room!"

I'm a little obsessed with the ecosystem in the corner of our living room. The household favorite fish is a red wagtail platy, which Todd named Mabel. She actually had babies while still in the bag waiting to be put in the tank. Of the thirteen we counted at first, two are still living. One grew in the tank with the big fish, and we managed to get a couple into a fish nursery. One of them, which Thea named Rojo, still survives, and interestingly it's much smaller than Tank Baby.

Well, I find it interesting, anyway.

We went to an aquarium store this weekend to get friends for our first fish. Our tank now also houses a second adult wagtail (Carlos), two dalmation mollies (Spot and Dot), three cardinal tetras (Nee, Yon, and Fron), and two guppies (Gus and Belle). All in all it's a very pretty combination.

I think that fish is upside down. Though I could be wrong.

It's rightside up, but now that you mention it, their eyes are awfully low. Wow. How did I never notice that?

I applaud the reclaiming of the living room!! Heres to the start of a beautiful eco-system relationship.

what fish store have you been going to? there used to be a super cool one (aka total hole in the wall that smelled like a rainforest exhibit at a good zoo) near Wheaton Plaza...but I don't know if it's still there...i'm a big fan of indy fish stores

The Tropical ... something or other? That's where we went! Total hole in the wall, but very, very cool.
