Mmm-mm-meme: The Omnivore's 100

Nylonthread tagged me with a fun meme, which I've been meaning to do, anyway, and so appreciate the nudge. Very Good Taste (via Postbourgie and Ezra Klein) gave a list of food items, plus the following instructions:

  2. Bold all the items you’ve eaten.

You need help with what these things are? And here I was impressed with what you've done already. :)

I had to look up a lot of them myself, so I might be off here. Black pudding is actually blood sausage, which turns black from the high iron content in the blood. Clotted cream tea is like an English scone with a creamy-butter spread.

And no hostess fruit pie? I don't blame you. I got food poisoning from a lemon one back in college. Never Again!

As you know, I'm not really a fan of fruit in general. So it's not that I wouldn't eat a hostess fruit pie, but if I'm going to spend the calories, I'd much rather it was on a cupcake.

Next party: assorted cheeses, black pudding, and clotted cream tea for everyone!

Done! Whole Foods has clotted cream and Canales Meats at Easter Market has black pudding. It's mostly oatmeal filler soaked in blood, so it's kinda like a Granola bar that's been used to mop up a crimescene.

Love this list...makes me want to try more things. I have never had Carp! What does it taste like? They are ugly so hopefully taste better than they look.

I had frog legs as a kid and loved them! And I agree...cupcake over a fruit pie!

Monkey, I knew I could count on you!

RW, I can't remember. I ordered it because it was misprinted as "crap." There's a lot on the list that I should revisit.

Wonderful wide ranging palate you have. But no more frog legs, please. Just remember all the little frogs on crutches . . .

Oh, I so loved hot dogs off of the street carts when I worked in San Francisco. I'd still eat one, but I'd never let the kids have one. (Like I'm the iron stomach woman.)

What a heck of a list of the foods you have had. Puts my life to shame. Or at least my food life.

Wow, never a hot dog off a street cart? SMART. Did you once have one and totally throw it up, thus crossing off all future possibilities, or just know enough to avoid them in the first place?

Favorite item on this list? Least fave?
