Thea's first day of kindergarten

Monday was Thea's first day at kindergarten. My little girl! Almost everything went smoothly. She didn't get lunch, though, because of a mix-up with the teachers. But we sent her with a lot of snacks, so it wasn't too disastrous.

Thea is a blur while she finds her chair; Liam and I look on. Todd talked to her teachers, and family friend Mike (who will be taking Thea to school twice a week, because he is AWESOME) took pictures. How cute are they all in their uniforms?

Desk found! Now she's getting settled.

The kid sitting across from her was very active all day, Thea told us later. And the next day he'd fall from leaning backward in his chair.

Kiss good-bye! Now Mommy has to run out to the parking lot so nobody sees her cry.

I cried, but I made it out of the room first. This year should be easier, but the next? My baby starts! And the crying....OY.

Oh Mama!! Did you make it to the car? I know I didn't that day.

I made it worse when I found out I had a hole in the butt of my shorts and then I was horrified AND sad. I make quite the first impressions.

What a big day for Thea... and you.

I tried to make it to the parking lot when my baby girl started Kindergarten, but caught in the hall during morning prayers and was a weeping mess by the end of the Our Father. It does get easier. :)

It amazes me how much of parenting is holding it together while your heart is in your throat. It takes a lot of courage to be a parent.

Don't forget to teach your child some special whistle or noise you hear over the sounds over a crowd. High notes carry farther than low notes. "Brave sounds" that can be heard so parent and child can echo locate are just as important as familiar lullabyes that signal all is well and time for bed.

Ah, that's a really special day to remember. For us, this year marked the first day of middle school (7th) and the first day at a new school (for both, the 5th and the 7th grader). And this week was the first week of tackle football. I've fought a lot of tears back this month, so I can't tell you that the first day of kindergarten feeling ever goes away.
