The Silver Fizz

The Paupered Chef had a post yesterday about a great cocktail, the Silver Fizz. It was just the thing to take the edge off a stressful day.

Hmm, I just realized how many of my last post feature cocktails. I just want to reassure anyone reading this who doesn't actually know me that I like to have one cocktail, one perfect cocktail, when I get home. I'm civilized that way.

Anyway, here's the recipe. Make one! They're awesome.

  • 1/2 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • 1/2 ounces lemon juice
  • 2 ounces Old Tom Gin
  • 1 egg white
  • club soda
Add sugar, lemon juice, gin, and egg white to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for at least a minute. The more you shake, the better your cocktail will be. Strain into a glass and top with club soda.

You can make a Golden Fizz by adding the egg yolk instead of the egg white, but it results in an inferior cocktail, in my opinion. A whole egg creates a Royal Fizz.

You're welcome.

Two of the nicest things waiting for me at the end of the day

The martini isn't as good as the one at Jimmy's, but the company makes up for that.

Have you been to Black and WTF? It's one of my favorite feeds, one I'm likely to check even when I have to mark all others as read.

Rebuilding after the storm

The blizzards of February did a massive amount of damage to my yard, but thankfully not to my house. Here you can kind of see a felled tree and trellis that used to frame the walkway to my front door. I loved the way it looked, and I'll admit to shedding a few tears when I saw that it had been taken down.

I had someone cut down the tree that matched the one that fell because, although it wasn't critically wounded, it was damaged beyond repair. We built a new trellis and planted trees.

A few weekends ago, we planted blueberry bushes and put down mulch. (Sorry for the thumb in there.)

Later, we planted herbs and took transplants from last year's garden (pictures to follow soon). It's coming along.
