Things I wonder about: Will the kids will tire of my barfing pumpkin at some point? How many more years will my kids dress up? And where have all the trick-or-treaters gone?!

Adorable zombie hoard stole my nutella crackers
![]() |
| Not my picture, but doesn't it look lovely? |
But when they saw my plate, they got distracted and crowded around me like a begging, grabby zombie hoard. I finally relented and gave them the nutella crackers, muttering under my breath "You already had candy after dinner, but fine, fine, here you go, monsters. You suck."
They looked shocked for about half a second, then burst into laughter. Liam skipped away, happily smearing his face with chocolate, but Thea stayed to chastise me. "HOW DARE YOU!! -- here, take a bite, poor Mommy -- I WILL NEVER SHARE WITH YOU EVER AGAIN!! -- here, take another bite, that one was so small -- WHAT A TERRIBLE THING TO SAY TO YOUR CHILDREN!!"
We both laughed so hard we couldn't breathe. She went off to play with Liam while I made myself two more crackers.

RIP Steve Jobs
Just earlier today, a friend and I said "Thank Jobs for the iPhone." Indeed, I'm writing this on my iPhone, as I do all my blog posts these days. How terribly sad.

First football game
The kids' school got free tickets to a football game from the local university, so my neighbor and I decided to take advantage of it. The team's mascot is a turtle. I love the absurdity of their slogan: "FEAR THE TURTLE."
We had a great time, but it was unusually cold and drizzly so we only lasted into the second quarter before abandoning the stadium and heading back to the fantastic, slow-cooked roast we had warming the house. The kids (all five of them) made their own Shirley Temples while the grownups drank martinis.
